Ponicidin is a pro-apoptotic protein that inhibits the survivin-dependent apoptosis pathway. It has been shown to induce significant cytotoxicity in human HL60 cells and carcinoma cell lines. Ponicidin has also been shown to increase the matrix effect in erythrocytes, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α. This drug also has interactions with other drugs, including an increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulant drugs, or increased risk of hypersensitivity reactions. The analytical method used for ponicidin is high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
Ponicidin is a polymeric macromolecule that induces apoptosis by binding to the matrix effect in erythrocytes, increasing drug concentrations at the target site and enhancing drug distribution in body tissues. Ponicidin also binds to mitochondrial membranes and inhibits mitochondrial
