Potassium Glycerophosphate is a phosphoric acid and potassium salt that is used as a buffer for biochemical research. It can be used to provide the necessary buffering capacity for reactions involving inorganic acids, such as hydrochloric acid, or organic acids, such as acetic acid. This product has been shown to have an acidic pH of 3.5-4.5 and a pKa of 10.5-11.5 at 20°C. The compound is also soluble in water and alcohols, but insoluble in ethers and chloroform. Potassium Glycerophosphate has been shown to inhibit the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae when used as a nutrient source.
