2-Methyl-3-hydroxy-4,5-dihydroxymethylpyridine (2MHMDHP) is a vitamin that belongs to the group of water soluble B complex vitamins. It is synthesized in the liver from pyridoxine, which is converted by vitamin b6 and a number of other enzymes. Vitamin B6 is required for synthesis of 2MHMDHP, which has antioxidant properties due to its role in energy metabolism. 2MHMDHP has been shown to be toxic at high doses in animal studies and may be carcinogenic.
