Pazufloxacin is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits the growth of microorganisms by inhibiting their protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and prevents the formation of an antibiotic-substrate complex with the enzyme peptidyl transferase, which is required for protein synthesis. Pazufloxacin hydrochloride has been shown to be effective against a variety of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. This drug also has antiviral properties, which may be related to its ability to inhibit viral DNA synthesis through inhibition of viral polymerase.
