3,3',4',5,7-Pentamethoxyflavone is a natural compound that has potent inducers of growth factor-β1. It can be used to treat bowel disease by promoting the growth of cells lining the intestine. 3,3',4',5,7-Pentamethoxyflavone has been shown to promote differentiation and proliferation of 3t3-l1 preadipocytes and hl-60 cells. This compound also induces apoptosis in cancer cells and has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in animal studies. 3,3',4',5,7-Pentamethoxyflavone is also an inhibitor of skin tumor formation and an inducer of glutathione synthesis. The mechanism of action for this compound is not understood but may involve a response element on DNA or inhibition of protein synthesis.
