PTH-Related Protein (1-34) is a potent antagonist of the PTH/PTHrP receptor, which belongs to the family of peptide hormones. It can be used for the treatment of osteoporosis and certain types of cancer. It inhibits bone resorption by binding to the receptor in bone cells and blocking PTH/PTHrP-induced activation of phosphaturic acid phosphatase. This drug also inhibits the production of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and its receptors, which may lead to an anti-cancer effect. PTH-Related Protein (1-34) has been shown to have a high specificity for the PTH/PTHrP receptor, with moderate affinity for other receptors such as glucagon and somatostatin. The peptide is amphipathic, meaning it has both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions. This characteristic allows it to penetrate cell membranes more easily than other
