This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis. H-Ala-Asn-Phe-Leu-Val-Trp has also been shown to have antagonist effects on basic fibroblast growth factor and cyclic AMP, which are important mediators of choroidal neovascularization and blood vessel formation.
