8-Prenylgenistein is a natural compound found in plants such as Pueraria lobata. It has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential and receptor activity. 8-Prenylgenistein has also been shown to have an effect on toll-like receptors, which are used by cells to detect pathogens. 8-Prenylgenistein binds at ATP binding cassette transporters and prevents the reuptake of extracellular ATP by cells. This may be due to its interaction with 5HT2 receptors, which are involved in the regulation of neuronal excitability. 8-Prenylgenistein is a good candidate for treatment of breast cancer because it has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation through p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) activation.
