Purpureaside C is a natural product that has a hypoglycemic effect and anti-oxidative effects. It has been shown to be effective in diabetes patients, as well as in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Purpureaside C suppresses the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by inhibiting the activity of oxidative enzymes such as lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase, and xanthine oxidase. Purpureaside C also inhibits lipid peroxidation and scavenges free radicals. Purpureaside C was identified by molecular docking analysis to bind to the active site of glutinosa, an enzyme involved in glycolysis.
