Description:

4-(2-Pyridyl)benzonitrile is a synthetic, water-soluble compound that can be synthesized in two steps from diethyl ether. It has been shown to have a pharmacokinetic profile close to that of fluoxetine hydrochloride (Prozac), which has led to its use in medicines for the treatment of depression. 4-(2-Pyridyl)benzonitrile has also been found to be fluorescent and capable of binding to ligands. This compound can be used as a fluorescent or luminescent probe for hydrazone, grignard reagent, and other chemical reactions.
