Description

3'-Phenoxyacetophenone is a synthetic substance that can be used in the synthesis of fenoprofen. It is also an active ingredient in oral dosage forms, such as acrylonitrile and codeine. 3'-Phenoxyacetophenone is activated by methylation with formaldehyde to produce the corresponding quaternary ammonium salt. The hydration of 3'-phenoxyacetophenone by acetonitrile gives phenylacetonitrile. 3'-Phenoxyacetophenone can be synthesized in high yield by reacting acetophenone with hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and ammonia.
