- Phenyl(1H-pyrrol-3-yl)methanon
Phenyl(1H-pyrrol-3-yl)methanone (P2PM) is a synthetic compound that has been used in the synthesis of other drugs. It is an impurity in aspirin and acetylsalicylic acid, and has been detected as a contaminant in food products. P2PM exhibits high yield with electrochemical polymerization and can be synthesized by reacting pyrrole with benzoyl chloride. The nmr spectra of P2PM show resonances at 2.5 ppm for the methyl group, 5.0 ppm for the protonated pyrrole, 10.0 ppm for the methylene protons, 14.0 ppm for the aromatic proton, and 18.0 ppm for the quaternary protons on the methoxybenzoyl moiety. Sodium periodate oxidizes P2PM to produce a phenol derivative that can be acetylated with acetic anhydride to form acet
