Description

Polyethylene glycol, PEG, is a polyether formed by several ethylen glycol units. It is widely used in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and the food industry as a solvent, plasticizer and surfactant, among others. In the rubber industry, the use of this polymer is mostly as a mould release agent and in lubricants.In molecular biology and biochemistry, PEG is used for DNA and nucleic acid precipitation, protein crystallization and fusion of mammalian cells.
