2-Phenoxy ethyl bromide is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antibacterial properties when tested against bacteria in the laboratory. It is also toxic to humans and other mammals, so care must be taken during its use. 2-Phenoxy ethyl bromide has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A), Enterococcus faecalis, and Staphylococcus aureus (Group A) at concentrations of 0.2% by weight in broth medium. 2-Phenoxy ethyl bromide may be effective against other bacteria as well, but further research is needed to confirm this.
