PF 1022A is a bicyclic heterocycle that inhibits the synthesis of protein targets by binding to a synthetase enzyme. It binds to the catalytic site of the synthetase, preventing further reactions. The cyclic peptide PF 1022A was shown to be an effective anthelmintic drug in vitro and in vivo. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria, as well as being active against HIV-1. The mechanism of action of PF 1022A is not yet fully understood but may involve intramolecular hydrogen transfer or conformational changes in the enzyme target.
