Palovarotene is a retinoid that is used in the treatment of bowel disease. It has been shown to bind to prostacyclin receptor and increase bone mass in the population. Palovarotene inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. Palovarotene also has been shown to inhibit the activation of osteogenic genes and suppress the growth of autoimmune diseases. This drug has a variety of analogs with different ester linkages that have different pharmaceutical dosages. The symptoms for overdose include nausea, vomiting, hair loss, skin rash, fever, joint pain, and fatigue.
