Pyridine-2-azo-p-dimethylaniline is a chemical compound that is structurally related to the phenolic acids. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of human serum esterases and aminopeptidase P. Pyridine-2-azo-p-dimethylaniline binds to the active site of these enzymes and blocks their activity, leading to the accumulation of inactive products in the blood. This compound also inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi, and yeast by inhibiting protein synthesis. Pyridine-2-azo-p-dimethylaniline has been shown to form ternary complex with cationic surfactant and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) DNA polymerase. This complex can be used as a model system for studying enzyme inhibition by pyridine compounds.
