Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) - MW 450,000 is a polymer that is used for the treatment of wastewater. It can be synthesized from allyl carbonate and sodium salt by the addition of water. The hydroxyl group in the backbone of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) - MW 450,000 provides chemical stability to the molecule. Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) - MW 450,000 particles are less than 1 micron in size and have been shown to have a significant effect on bacterial growth. This polymer has also been shown to produce microcapsules containing an antimicrobial agent that can kill bacteria on surfaces.
