Phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide is a reactive oxygen species (ROS) generator that is used as an initiator for radical polymerization. It has been shown to be effective in regenerative medicine as a monomer for the synthesis of polymers and copolymers. Phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide also has photocatalytic activity and can be used in organic synthesis techniques for the formation of Grignard reagents. The most common use of this compound is as a polymerization initiator in low light conditions or when using methylbenzene as a monomer.
