Phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide also has photocatalytic activity and can be used in organic synthesis techniques for the formation of Grignard reagents. The most common use of this compound is as a polymerization initiator in low light conditions or when using methylbenzene as a monomer.
