4-Phenylpyridine N-oxide is an organic molecule that has been shown to react with 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in a one-pot reaction to form the corresponding n-oxide. The formation rate of the n-oxide from the starting material is dependent on temperature, with the rate increasing as temperature increases. The chlorine atom in 4-phenylpyridine N-oxide binds to the oxygen atom in the 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid molecule, forming a chloroperoxybenzoate intermediate. This intermediate reacts with water to form chloroperoxybenzoate and hydrogen peroxide. The diameter of 4-phenylpyridine N-oxide is around 1.5 Ångström and its reaction products are chloroperoxydibenzoic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Synthesis of 4-phenylpyridine N-oxide can be achieved through a number of reactions including substitution or addition reactions using
