Pseudomonic acid C is a biosynthetic product of Pseudomonas stutzeri. It can be obtained from the culture media by extraction with chloroform or other organic solvents. This molecule is an aliphatic hydrocarbon that contains a chloride and a carbon source. The aromatic hydrocarbons in this molecule are produced by bacterial strain as an acidic efflux pump to resist the acidic environment of marine microorganisms. Pseudomonic acid C has shown potent antibacterial activity against gram-negative organisms, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium, due to its ability to inhibit the transport of ions across the bacterial membrane.
