Description:The Toll-like receptor is a transmembrane protein that recognizes bacterial and viral components, and triggers an immune response. It has been shown to be involved in molecular pathogenesis of cancer. Perillyl alcohol binds to the Toll-like receptor and inhibits its activity, which may lead to cancer prevention. In addition, perillyl alcohol can bind to the toll-like receptor in its bound form, inhibiting DNA polymerase activity in mouse tumor cells. This drug has also been shown to have anticancer effects on murine hepatoma cells. Perillyl alcohol is a natural compound that has not been found to be toxic or mutagenic in wild-type mice or rats.
