3-Pentanol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of polycarboxylic acids. It is produced by the reaction of orthoboric acid with sodium carbonate in an aqueous solution. 3-Pentanol is used as a polymerization catalyst in the preparation of polytrifluoromethanesulfonic acid (PFTS). This chemical compound also reacts with malonic acid and hydrogen bromide to produce trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFMS), which can be used for various industrial purposes, such as corrosion inhibition. 3-Pentanol can be produced by reacting methyl ethyl ketone and hydrochloric acid or inorganic acids, such as sulfuric acid.
