Papaverine hydrochloride is a drug used in the treatment of squamous carcinoma. It is administered intravenously and should be diluted with saline before administration. Papaverine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro, but does not inhibit their growth at physiological levels in vivo. In addition, this drug has been shown to reduce locomotor activity in geriatric patients and to have no effect on human chemiluminescence. This drug also has an antimicrobial effect when injected into human serum for blood sampling and subarachnoid space.
