Description:Paricalcitol is a drug that is used to treat congestive heart failure in patients with chronic kidney disease. It works by inhibiting the apoptosis pathway, which is important for regulating cell growth and death. Paricalcitol inhibits the production of growth factor-β1, which is known to be involved in the progression of congestive heart failure. Paricalcitol also has been shown to inhibit oxidative injury caused by ischemia–reperfusion injury and to inhibit toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathways. This drug has been shown to have long-term efficacy in experimental models of heart failure, including a rotarod test and an experimental model of kidney fibrosis.
