4-Penten-1-ol is a reactive compound that has been shown to react with a number of biological molecules. It reacts with hydroxyl groups of eugenol, forming an ester product. 4-Penten-1-ol also reacts with diphenyl sulfoxide in the formation of tetrahydropyran and unsaturated alkyl. This molecule is used as a marker for uptake by fatty acids.
