Description:Petromyzonol is an analytical agent for the determination of insulin resistance. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), which is responsible for the transport of cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver. Petromyzonol has also been shown to inhibit fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis, which may be due to its ability to bind disulfate groups and inhibit structural studies.
