Pipotiazine palmitate is a long-acting antipsychotic drug that belongs to the class of phenothiazine derivatives. It is used for the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Pipotiazine palmitate has been shown to be effective in treating chronic schizophrenia with minimal side effects. This drug binds to dopamine D2 receptors, which leads to a decrease in dopaminergic activity in the brain and improves symptoms of psychosis. Pipotiazine palmitate is administered orally in two doses per day. A major limitation of this medication is its low bioavailability due to its high lipophilicity, which may be due to its undecylenate ester form.
