PNU 142300 is a non-absorbed prodrug that is converted to the active form of PNU 614240, a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth. PNU 142300 has been shown to be effective in animal experiments and clinical studies against infectious diseases. It has been used to treat sepsis and severe infections in humans when the patient's liver function is impaired. The drug is not absorbed into the body, but rather excreted through the kidneys unchanged. The plasma concentration-time curve for PNU 142300 shows that it has an elimination half-life of approximately 40 hours. This drug binds with thrombocytopenia (reduced platelet count) and can cause a decrease in blood pressure and urea nitrogen levels. In addition, there are several reports of adverse reactions due to its use in clinical trials including fever, chills, myalgia, arthralgia, headache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
