Potassium glutaconate is a chiral compound that can be synthesized by the alkylation of glutaconic acid with potassium carbonate in the presence of an enolether. It has inhibitory properties against a number of cancer cell lines and also inhibits the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids. This compound has been shown to form hydrogen peroxide when heated, which may be responsible for its biological activity.
