This molecule has been shown to undergo irreversible oxidation with the formation of aldehyde groups and water molecules, which are membrane permeable. 4-(2-Pyridinyl)benzaldehyde has also been shown to induce apoptotic cell death in Candida glabrata cells via mitochondrial damage.
