N-Pentylboronic acid is a synthetic chemical that is used to synthesize other compounds. It has a functional group that will react with other chemicals, forming ternary complexes. N-Pentylboronic acid can also be used as an inhibitor for bortezomib, a drug used in the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. This chemical inhibits the trimerization of bortezomib and prevents the formation of large aggregates that form when this drug is administered alone. The hydrocarbon solvent pentane is often used in this reaction because it can dissolve the complexed agent. N-Pentylboronic acid also has been shown to have cholesterol esterase activity, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects.
