Pentachloropyridine is an inorganic compound that has a chemical formula of C5H4ClN3. It is a white solid and can be produced by the reaction of sodium carbonate and pentachloropyridine. This reaction takes place at high temperature and produces hydrogen fluoride, which reacts with copper chloride to form copper pentafluoride. The copper pentafluoride then reacts with nitrogen atoms from the atmosphere to form pentachloropyridine. Pentachloropyridine can also be produced by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and n-oxide, which are both inorganic acids. Pentachloropyridine is used as a catalyst in reactions involving organic compounds, such as polymers or pharmaceuticals. It can be analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS).
