4-Pentylaniline is a monosubstituted aniline. It is used in the manufacture of dyes, resins, and other organic compounds. 4-Pentylaniline exhibits different properties depending on the method of preparation. The thermal expansion coefficient of 4-pentylaniline is 0.00761 (±0.0005)°C−1, which is about twice that of water at room temperature (0.0038°C−1). The solubility of 4-pentylaniline in water decreases with increasing temperature and pressure, but increases with decreasing pH and salinity. It crystallizes as two polymorphs: a monoclinic form I and a triclinic form II. The solubility of form II increases with increasing temperature while the solubility of form I decreases with increasing temperature.
