3-(3-Pyridyl)-D-alanine is a synthetic compound that inhibits the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) receptor, which is a tyrosine kinase receptor. 3-(3-Pyridyl)-D-alanine has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA synthesis in mammalian cells. It also has an inhibitory effect on sequences that are important for epidermal growth factor (EGF) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). 3-(3-Pyridyl)-D-alanine analogs have been shown to be effective in treating chronic liver disease.
