L-Proline tert-butyl ester hydrochloride is a natural inhibitor that is used as an additive in the analysis of proteases. It inhibits cysteine and cathepsin, which are enzymes involved in protein degradation. L-Proline tert-butyl ester hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit a number of proteases, including papain, bromelain, trypsin, chymotrypsin, and elastase. L-Proline tert-butyl ester hydrochloride is an analogue of L-proline that has substitutions at subsites on the molecule. These substitutions lead to an increase in the inhibitory potency and selectivity of this compound. The increased potency and selectivity may be due to electrostatic interactions between the inhibitor and the enzyme's active site.
