4-Piperidinopiperidine is a potential inhibitor of the enzyme, fatty acid synthase (FASN), which catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. This reaction is important for the production of palmitic acid and other long chain fatty acids. 4-Piperidinopiperidine has been shown to inhibit FASN activity in a dose dependent manner with an IC50 value of 0.1 mM. The inhibition was not reversible and covalent adducts were formed with lysine residues on the protein surface. 4-Piperidinopiperidine has been shown to bind to DNA templates in an agarose gel electrophoresis assay, suggesting that this drug may be useful as a template molecule for therapeutic purposes.
