Pirimicarb is a carbamate insecticide that inhibits the ryanodine receptor, which is an ion channel that regulates calcium release in muscle cells. Pirimicarb also inhibits polymerase chain reactions. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of ATPases and glycolysis in plants and to affect energy metabolism in bacteria. Pirimicarb has been shown to be toxic to mammals and has been used as an experimental model for infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis.
