Description

2-Propoxy benzoic acid is a hydroxybenzoic acid that is used as a dietary supplement. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in animal models of degenerative diseases, such as trigeminal neuralgia and Parkinson's disease. 2-Propoxy benzoic acid can be synthesized from propionate by acetylation with acetic anhydride. 2-Propoxy benzoic acid is also found in the human body as a result of light exposure, which signifies the presence of reactive functional groups on the hydrocarbon chain. These reactive functional groups are cyclohexane rings that can be metabolized into fatty acids.
