Product Information
2-Phenylethyl acetate is a natural product that is produced by plants in response to stress. It has been shown to have bactericidal effects against the human cell line HL-60 and against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2-Phenylethyl acetate is also known to form films on surfaces, which are thought to be due to its film-forming polymer properties. It is also used in pharmaceutical preparations and as a solvent. 2-Phenylethyl acetate has been found to have antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, and it has been shown to inhibit the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, an important model organism for studying the genetics of eukaryotes. This compound also inhibits fatty acid synthesis in microorganisms.
