It is also used in pharmaceutical preparations and as a solvent. 2-Phenylethyl acetate has been found to have antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, and it has been shown to inhibit the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, an important model organism for studying the genetics of eukaryotes. This compound also inhibits fatty acid synthesis in microorganisms.
