PheNoxathiiN-4-boroNic acid is a boron-containing compound that has been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It is structurally related to other antibiotics, such as erythromycin and penicillin, but does not have antibiotic properties. PheNoxathiiN-4-boroNic acid has been shown to bind to bacterial cells by using the same mechanism as other boronic compounds. It also inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA.
