D-a-Phenylglycine is a D-amino acid that is synthesized by the enzyme phenylalanine ammonia lyase from the amino acid phenylalanine. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of dopamine and norepinephrine, which are neurotransmitters involved in regulating mood, behavior, and cognition. D-a-Phenylglycine has been shown to have structural activity against dopamine receptors and response elements. It also has a high binding affinity for human serum proteins and can be used in surface methodology as well as x-ray diffraction data. In addition, it has been shown to have strong inhibitory effects on microbial metabolism due to its structural similarity to sugar molecules.
