Product Information
- 4-Hydroxy-2-phenylquinoline
- 2-phenylquinolin-4(1H)-one
2-Phenylquinolin-4-ol is a cytostatic agent that inhibits the proliferation of cells by interfering with the cell cycle at different stages. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of k562 cells, which are human leukemia cells, and induce apoptosis in hl-60 cells. 2-Phenylquinolin-4-ol also inhibits mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase activity and decreases mitochondrial membrane potential in these cells. 2-Phenylquinolin-4-ol exhibits antimicrobial activity against gram positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, but not against gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. This drug binds to actin filaments and induces their depolymerization, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation. 2-Phenylquinolin-4-ol also binds to cytosolic proteins and inhibits cellular ATP levels by preventing phosphorylation of adenosine diphosphate (ADP)
