Pyridine-2,3-dicarbonitrile is an amorphous substance that inhibits DNA methylation and is a potential anticancer drug. It causes the conversion of 5-methylcytosine to thymine, which results in hypomethylation of DNA. This compound has been shown to have anti-cancer activity in mouse models of cancer. Pyridine-2,3-dicarbonitrile also lowers blood pressure and has been found to be effective against bladder cancer cells.
