N-Phenyliminodiacetic acid (NPD) is an organic acid that functions as a monomer and polymerization initiator in polyanhydrides. It has been shown to function as a redox potential sensor, having a strong response to changes in the environment. NPD has been shown to be sensitive to reactive oxygen species, such as HCl, which can affect its fluorescence properties. This compound is also active against aneurysms and has been used in simulations of these lesions. NPD also chelates with metal ions and can be used in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning.
