Name:
Palmitoyl-L-carnitine chloride
Synonyms:
  • Hexadecanoyl-L-carnitine chloride
Description:

Palmitoyl-L-carnitine chloride is a carnitine that is synthesized from lysine and palmitic acid. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of insulin resistance by improving the sensitivity of muscle and adipose tissue to insulin. Palmitoyl-L-carnitine chloride can also induce mitochondrial biogenesis, which may play a role in its beneficial effects on insulin resistance. The optimum pH for absorption of this compound is 8.5, at which point it can be absorbed through the intestinal wall into the blood stream. Palmitoyl-L-carnitine chloride has been shown to enhance absorption of other compounds such as vitamin C, beta carotene, and alpha lipoic acid.
