Phenyl-phenyl-OH is a fatty acid amide that is used in the synthesis of lactogenic hormones. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of ethylene diamine. Phenyl-phenyl-OH has been shown to have a high rate of reaction with human serum, and its kinetic data are complex with respect to both protonation and steric interactions. The compound has been shown to form hydrogen bonds with basic proteins, which may be due to its ability to protonate at pH values below 8.5.
