2-(Phenylthio)benzoic acid is an antimycobacterial agent that inhibits the growth of mycobacteria. It blocks the synthesis of cellular proteins, which leads to cell death. 2-(Phenylthio)benzoic acid binds to DNA and RNA, inhibiting their synthesis and leading to cell death by blocking protein synthesis in mycobacteria. It has been shown to have antiviral properties against HIV-1 and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). This drug also inhibits the activity of SIRT1, a protein which regulates gene expression and metabolism.
